Commission: Volks SwD Syo

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

I finished a commission for a Volks Sweet Dreams Syo this week, and must admit it was a really enjoyable project!

I love that the owner requested for darker colours around the eye area, and also stronger colours for blush and lips. The doll is meant to be a boy (which the darker colours emphasised), but the faceup can also work for a girl?

Volks resin is so lovely to work on – all the colours just seem to glide on.

Sometimes, I still can’t believe that I have this boy home with me.
He makes everything around him pale in comparison.

Croydon doll show

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

I went to the Croydon Doll Show on Saturday with my friends, Simone and Aloha. We had heard about this doll show from a lady we had met at the last doll show we went to, and were interested to see what would be for sale at this one. Also, it was a good time for us to catch up and have a dolly meet.

The doll show itself wasn’t a big one, and the dealers mainly sold porcelain and bisque dolls. There were also some dress making materials for sale, and also doll making materials like eyes, lashes, etc. We each bought a few dollhouse miniatures, and then went to have lunch at the nearby restaurant.

We had our dolls on the table while waiting for our food to arrive, and during that time, there were different ladies coming up to our table to ask about our dolls (and if we made them), or just to comment how lovely they were. There was this one lady who was so interested in them, she exchanged email addresses with me, and asked that I write to her to give her some advice on how to buy one! I’ve since written to her by email, so hopefully she will find it useful and get her own bjd soon. ^_^

Of angst and lols

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

I bought a new doll last week – and he was shipped out pretty promptly after payment. What I was being all angst over was that the tracking number provided appeared on the day I received the info (saying that it was lodged at xxxxx), but after that, it disappeared off the face of the planet. Repeated checks on USPS and Auspost yielded the same result – no item found. D:

I was informed that the item was due to arrive on the 8th (today), but I wasn’t very optimistic about it since I thought it had been lost in transit. @_@ Funnily enough, Bill (my regular EMS guy) delivered the new dollie at about 4pm today. Imagine the relief after a weekend of worrying!

Now for the lols bit – I deboxed new dollie, and prompted felt all nonchalent about him. >.> I thought he would be the perfect little buddy to Jelly, but looking at him as he is now, I’m not too sure. I guess it doesn’t help that his default faceup is scratched, and that I have no clothes nor wig for him to wear.

Hopefully a new faceup should fix that. Oh, and the many items that I won on Y!J (but have yet to be shipped) should help create his look too. ^_~
