What I did today

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

I went to Geelong.

I had cake.

I watched history being made on telly (granted, t was a repeat telecast).

I wrote a letter.

I cried.

That is all.

Packing

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

I’m going to be moving interstate in a few weeks’ time, and being back in Melbourne earlier than originally planned, I decided to make a headstart on spring cleaning and packing.

What better things to start with than my collection of doll stuff?

It’s amazing how much stuff I manage to find in my wardrobe that belong to the dolls! I filled up 4 boxes with wigs alone! Doesn’t matter that I only have 8 dolls – I think wigs are the best things to easily change a doll’s look without too much effort. Clothes don’t always work, and new repaints take time and a lot of effort.

Anyway, I’m happy with how I’ve sorted their stuff; guess it’s time to tackle the other things now!

Happy Christmas, everyone!

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

I hope everyone has a very merry and safe Christmas this year!

May 2009 bring you health and happiness!

So.

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

The rest of the family’s on their way back to Melbourne on Christmas Eve, and I will be joining them a week later. Am not happy about it at all since we were originally suppposed to be here till mid January.

Let’s just say I hate technicalities – they screw up stuff too often.

Minor positive note is that I still get to be here for The Doll Affair, which was something I was looking forward to on this trip. I’m finding myself treating the doll hobby as a more personal/individual form of enjoyment of late – TDA should be a nice change – it’ll be something I can enjoy with other doll enthusiasts, but yet, not feel obliged to be totally social (since I reckon it’ll be pretty packed at the venue on the day). Plus, it’ll probably be the closest I can get to an event like the Volks Dolpa for a while.

Getting reacquainted

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

Oops, haven’t updated in a few days as promised! I am going to blame the weather as it has been so so humid constantly, and even with the few showers we’ve had, it hasn’t helped. If anything, the rain just made it feel more humid after it’s stopped. But all in all, it’s nice to be in Singapore again, and getting reacquainted with everything. I’ve even missed our house (living room pictured above).

Anyway! Been out catching up with a few friends, so it’s been good fun. I didn’t realise how much I’ve missed the food here (truly!) until I walked into your average foodcourt in a mall and find myself wanting to sample everything at once.

I’m off to help out at the toystore I used to work at tomorrow and Sunday, so that’ll mean a chance to catch up with my ex-boss (whom I adore and consider a friend), and also a few ex-colleagues I used to work with. I’ll have my camera with me, so hopefully I can take some photos too.

Arrived!

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Actually, have arrived yesterday afternoon in Singapore, but didn’t have the internet connected nor had time to post anything.

Am sort of sick (still) and tired, so shall update when I am up in the morning.

Say it isn’t so

Friday, November 28th, 2008

I’m leaving for Singapore in 2 days for a 6 weeks’ holiday, and tonight, I’m starting to think (and feel) that I’m coming down with a cold. Have a sore throat since dinner time, and now I’m starting to get a runny nose too. I’ve take some cold/flu pills, so hopefully after a good sleep tonight, it would go away tomorrow.

Anyway, can’t wait to go back to Singapore! In anticipation, I went and got a new prime lens for my camera! So so excited about it! It’s a fast 30mm f1.4 lens, so it should be good in low light. I’ve taken a few test shots with it already, but can’t wait to put it to better use once I’m in Singapore.

Should probably go to bed now seeing it’s nearly 3am. Still have this cold to starve off, and lots more packing to do.

Officially unemployed!

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

I finished my last day on the job yesterday!

We had a morning tea in the office, and my colleagues also gave me a going away gift of a laptop/travel bag with a diary, pens and a travel tag. So thoughtful!

Although I’m happy to be going away on holiday and also to get away from work (it was notorious for double-handling work when there was no need to), I’m going to miss having a set daily routine, and also miss a few of my colleagues there. My supervisor was a lovely lady, who I hope is now a friend. I was genuinely sad to not be able to work with her anymore. Also, sad that I don’t get to work with Sarah anymore too (no more gossip sessions on our tea breaks or having dolly days at work!), but I still get to catch up with her outside of work, so that’s okay.

Anyway! Have to pack my bags now; going to Newcastle this evening, and will be back on Tuesday. Really hope to sort out the mess of a relationship out with the boy.

Dinner for one

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

I do enjoy cooking a lot, and usually prefer cooking for myself, or just for a few people. Don’t really like cooking for a large crowd or party since it feels less personal and more like an operation.

4 days and counting

Monday, November 17th, 2008

I’ve spent a relative short 1.5 years at this job, and as much as I love it at times; there are days when I just can’t be bothered with all the double-handling or stupidity that goes on at work. But in 4 days’ time, this will all end since Friday will be my last day on the job.

It’ll be good to have it down on my resume; but the time at the job has maybe in a way contributed to stress on my relationship with the boy. He can never handle distance and time apart well, and me being in Melbourne, and him being interstate doesn’t help matters. Of course, it would be good if he had moved here, since throughout my time at this job, he has been helping out at home and doing freelance work; but due to family circumstances and his other personal reasons (that he rather not share); he’s stayed firmly where he is.

With the last day at work looming; I can’t help but feel a sense of impending freedom tinged with a bit dread.
