That time again

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

Have to pack the bag again as I’m due to fly back to Newcastle later today. How time flies – my near fornight long trip in Melbourne is coming to an end!

It was lovely being back in Melbourne again catching up with family and friends, but I’m actually looking forward to going back to Newcastle too and seeing the boy again.

Keeping busy

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Since moving to Newcastle, I’ve started taking commissions for dolly faceups again, and this was one that I’d recently completed that I liked very much.

She’s a Volks Amelia, and the owner wanted her to be feminine, yet somewhat sexy. Generally, I do feel that this sculpt looks better as a male doll, but I had fun repainting this one as a girl anyway! Somehow, she reminds me of an old hollywood beauty.

I’m going to be flying back to Melbourne tomorrow for a short holiday, so won’t be able to work on any faceups for the next week or so, but when I’m back, I’ll be waiting on a few new commissions to arrive, so am looking forward to that!

On display

There’s an ongoing project in Newcastle called Renew Newcastle, and I’ve been following it for a while. Its aim is to find short and medium term uses for disused spaces in the Newcastle CBD.

I was very excited when one of the projects was a photography gallery called Gallery RAW. It’s hard to find a gallery locally that is dedicated to solely photographic work, and this one also has plans for future workshops and meetups at the premises.

3 of my photos are currently part of an exhibition at the gallery. The exhibition is called “It Must Be Art!” and it showcases works of Flickr photographers from Newcastle and the Hunter Region. I’m very excited and honoured to have my photos be a part of this exhibition!

If you are in the area, please do take the time to stop by the gallery and take a look! There are a total of 70 prints on display by various photographers and the prints are also available for purchase directly from the gallery.

Flowers make me happy

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

His family home is surrounded by many beautiful flowers and trees, and they are such a joy to have around.

When we move in to our own place soon, I hope we can fill our house and garden with as many wonderful flowers too.

Officially unemployed!

I finished my last day on the job yesterday!

We had a morning tea in the office, and my colleagues also gave me a going away gift of a laptop/travel bag with a diary, pens and a travel tag. So thoughtful!

Although I’m happy to be going away on holiday and also to get away from work (it was notorious for double-handling work when there was no need to), I’m going to miss having a set daily routine, and also miss a few of my colleagues there. My supervisor was a lovely lady, who I hope is now a friend. I was genuinely sad to not be able to work with her anymore. Also, sad that I don’t get to work with Sarah anymore too (no more gossip sessions on our tea breaks or having dolly days at work!), but I still get to catch up with her outside of work, so that’s okay.

Anyway! Have to pack my bags now; going to Newcastle this evening, and will be back on Tuesday. Really hope to sort out the mess of a relationship out with the boy.
