Well into winter!

Friday, June 19th, 2009

Starting to notice that it’s winter now; the weather getting chilly and we’ve been getting so much rain lately too! The poor garden’s getting soaked. >_<

Wordpress has also just released version 2.8, and I've installed the new version and am liking what I see so far!

In other news, the Faireground forum is coming along nicely! It’s been about 2 weeks’ since we launched the forum, and we’re up to 88 members. Hopefully we’ll break 100 soon! null

Forum!

Saturday, June 6th, 2009

It was a while in the making, but the Faireground forum is now open!

In short, the forum’s Australian based, and it will hopefully be a place for dollfie owners around the country to gather online to chat and organise doll meets. There’s also a small marketplace for people to request for or sell any dolly goods without the hassle of any overseas shipping.

I know it’s been attempted before and didn’t really take off, but here’s hoping it’ll have a good run!

Keeping busy

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Since moving to Newcastle, I’ve started taking commissions for dolly faceups again, and this was one that I’d recently completed that I liked very much.

She’s a Volks Amelia, and the owner wanted her to be feminine, yet somewhat sexy. Generally, I do feel that this sculpt looks better as a male doll, but I had fun repainting this one as a girl anyway! Somehow, she reminds me of an old hollywood beauty.

I’m going to be flying back to Melbourne tomorrow for a short holiday, so won’t be able to work on any faceups for the next week or so, but when I’m back, I’ll be waiting on a few new commissions to arrive, so am looking forward to that!

Happy Easter!

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

Poeme doesn’t look too happy that I made her impersonate the Easter Bunny.

Hope everyone (who celebrates it) has a happy Easter though!

And it was supposed to be fun

Sometimes, I read about so many catfights and so much wank online to do with the dolly hobby that I just want to dissociate myself with the whole thing.

I guess that’s partly why I losing the enjoyment of sharing my dolly hobby with others in forums and on Flickr? I still love the dolls I have, but it’s become a more personal interest – I find I have the need to share and get approval (in a sense) from others.

Anyway, I’m off back to Melbourne tomorrow till Saturday. Cannot wait to see the family and catch up with a few friends again!

Interviewed for Doll-Lite!

Friday, January 16th, 2009

An interview I did with Doll-Lite a while ago has been published online HERE.

The interview focuses mainly on how I got into the ball-jointed doll hobby and my customising/repainting of dolls.

Please take a look if you have a few spare minutes!

(Doll-Lite is an online blog/magazine which features articles about toys and dolls, and also interviews with various individuals or companies that deals with them.)

Packing

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

I’m going to be moving interstate in a few weeks’ time, and being back in Melbourne earlier than originally planned, I decided to make a headstart on spring cleaning and packing.

What better things to start with than my collection of doll stuff?

It’s amazing how much stuff I manage to find in my wardrobe that belong to the dolls! I filled up 4 boxes with wigs alone! Doesn’t matter that I only have 8 dolls – I think wigs are the best things to easily change a doll’s look without too much effort. Clothes don’t always work, and new repaints take time and a lot of effort.

Anyway, I’m happy with how I’ve sorted their stuff; guess it’s time to tackle the other things now!

Commission: CP Juri Type A 2007

Monday, December 15th, 2008

I feel like I’ve come full circle, in a way.

This doll had one of the first commissioned faceups I did, and I like to think that I have improved since my first attempt.

Published in FDQ!

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

One of my photos got published in the October/Winter 2008 issue of FDQ magazine (Fashion Doll Quarterly)!

I’m was so surprised when I got a copy of the magazine sent to my address and saw my photo in it; I had submitted photos, but didn’t really expect any to get picked for publication, so this is really a great and pleasant surprise!

The photo was used in an article called “Birthday Suits: BJD Anniversary Greetings” (page 82), which was a feature to celebrate the magainze’s 5th anniversary. My photo featured my friend’s Oceanmoon Eun-Ryoung and Jelly, my Volks YoTenshi Yuh.

A big thank you too, to Mercy, for helping make this all possible!

Happy birthday, Rome!

Friday, October 31st, 2008

It’s been one year since my first Volks doll came home.

I bought Rome without having a specific character in mind for him; but he has evolved over time into a quiet boy, that has a dark streak to him that sometimes surfaces.

He is not photographed as much as the other SD13 boys I have, but is still, very much loved.

Happy 1st anniversary!
